"God's Power at Work in Our Youth"

"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity," –I Timothy 4:12

Broom Hockey - Youth Week 2010

Youth Week at our church concludes with a combined worship service on Sunday morning led by our youth and their leaders. For many this is one of the highlights of the year as we hear reports on the wonderful youth events and the impact they have made on our young people.

We are so fortunate to have Shannon and Jonathan Jennings, and David Sandlin on our church staff as well as a number of faithful adult volunteers to provide for the planning, preparation and programming of our youth ministry.

Youth Week - Spaghetti SlobfestI recently visited one of our youth meetings and found that in addition to having a fun time and a delicious meal prepared by parents there was also a program and discussion on moral issues of right and wrong and how the Lord wants to help us make right choices and walk in the truth.

During Youth Week the rising seventh graders were welcomed into the fellowship and joined in a week of fun activities as well as inspirational programming.

On Youth Sunday we will hear about service projects and mission activities as well as winter retreat, wilderness trail and other outings in which the youth participated.

Youth Week - SkatingI recently heard about a college student who took part in a Death and Dying class in which she had to plan her own funeral and also write her own obituary as a class project. In her reflections she shared about the significant role that participation in our youth ministry and Shannon's influence in particular had meant in her life.

We are providing for our youth a foundation upon which they can build for a lifetime. We are introducing them to Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. We are praying that this will be the beginning of a relationship with God that will never end. Amen.
