Prayer for the New Year

This is by a friend whose memorial service was held last week. Cherrie and I both spoke. She was a prolific poet and a prayer warrior.

PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR
Father, this is a new year. This is a new day.
This is a new hour. This is a new minute.
This is even a new second. What am I going to do with it?
You have a plan for my life this year. Even this day you have a plan for me.
Don't let me waste one minute of this day because I have not sought your guidance.

Cleanse me, Father, that I may be a new person in this new day. Holy Spirit, fill my new self with:

Empathy-that I may be able to sense the need of my loved ones, neighbor, friend, my casual acquaintance, the stranger that crosses my path. Help me to see their potential for good.

Wisdom- that I may be able, through you, to help them know you care. That I may be able to know when to keep quiet and simply pray; and that I may know when to speak and what to say and when and where to say it.

Patience- when others do not see you as I do. Patience when irritations arise in the home.

Kindness- It has been said that we only hurt the ones we love; I would say we only hurt those who love us when we are unkind.

Meekness- that I may not think more highly of myself than I ought to think. Never let me forget how weak I am when I lose sight of you.

Faith and Trust- about all else, I pray, because without these I am miserable and cannot have any of the prior requests.

Thank you, Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.
