Our HistoryWe give thanks!
As we at Ortega United Methodist Church anticipate our 100th birthday in 2012, we look back with joy and gratitude. God's guidance and many of His people – dedicated ministers and laymen – have brought us from our humble beginnings in a house at the corner of Cherokee Avenue and Baltic Street to the outstanding campus we have on Roosevelt Boulevard today.

We remember all of those who had the foresight to help to bring this to pass. We do not accept change easily, but we can be changed if it is for the betterment of the church! We can remember when discussions were held as to whether ministers should wear robes. Yet today at our traditional worship service, not only do the ministers wear robes––but the choir processes in robes as well. We can remember when guitars and drums were far from acceptable in our worship, and yet today our Praise Band is a vital part of our contemporary service. We are proud of our church, of our youth, of our Playschool, and of the contributions we make toward bettering this area and also the world. We were once told that our church is a sleeping giant. We like to think that the giant has awakened! We look forward to many more years of serving God at Ortega United Methodist Church! 1912-2010.
