Family Promise

“Family Promise of Jacksonville is a non-profit, interfaith hospitality network providing temporary assistance, hospitality and case management for families with children experiencing homelessness.”

How does it work?

Family Promise employs an innovative and economical model of care, which enables operating costs to be 1/3 of traditional shelters.  Each evening, families are transported to hosting congregations where volunteers welcome them as guests into their church.  The Host congregation provides meals, hospitality, and overnight accommodations for one week on a rotating basis.

Ortega UMC is a host congregation for Family Promise. Volunteers from the Ortega congregation provide hospitality to Family Promise guests by helping provide dinners, donating supplies, setting up and breaking down guest families’ rooms, sleeping overnight on campus, spending evenings with our guests, and fellowshipping with guest families.

Venetia Elementary

Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies in August for Venetia Elementary. We were overwhelmed by the amount of supplies we received and are excited to continue our faith-based partnership with Venetia Elementary throughout this school year. If you are interested in volunteering with Venetia this school year please contact Kathy Nipper, 904-923-4612; volunteers can customize their schedule (once a week, once a month, morning, afternoon, etc) and choose their interest (mentor, classroom asst, guest speaker, media, etc); Venetia Elementary appreciates any amount of time you have to give. If you would like to sign up to volunteer please click on the Venetia Volunteer Link
