"A Witness for Christ in the Heart of Appalachia"

Who we are:

Red Bird Mission is an institution in the Red Bird Missionary Conference and is comprised of Red Bird Mission, Inc. and Red Bird Clinic, Inc., two national mission institutions related to the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church.

Our Mission Statement:

Red Bird Mission, guided by Jesus Christ, empowers individuals and advocates justice by providing spiritual, educational, health, and community outreach ministries.

Founded in 1921on the Red Bird River in Southeast Kentucky, as a school and church mission to Appalachia.  In 1922 the clinic opened and in 1928 the hospital.  The hospital was later moved into Queensdale and then closed in 1986.   The mission came under the United Methodist church in 1968.  In 1973 the Red Bird Mission Conference was formed to incorporate all the programs under one umbrella organization.  Currently the Red Bird Mission operates a clothing store, a craft store selling locally made crafts, a Senior Citizens Center, a health and dental clinic, an elderly housing program, a K-12 Christian School and Dorm for HS students, and a Early Childhood/pre-K program.  They host a work camp that provides mission opportunities to 2700 individuals and groups during the year.

OUMC contributes annually to missionaries, Fred and Pat Haggard, at the Red Bird Mission through Methodist Global Ministries.
